Tulane To Host Party Today For Its Retiring President

Tulane University is hosting a party today for outgoing President Scott Cowen, who's retiring effective July 1, 2014.

Anne Banos, Chief of Staff and Vice-President for Administrative Services at Tulane, says "this is a campus-wide celebration, and it's going to feature a 6-float parade, free food, some giveaways, fireworks and entertainment by Kermit Ruffins."

"We're doing this to honor Scott's extraordinary leadership and his tenure as president of Tulane University."

Banos says the party will be held at Devlin Fieldhouse at Freret and McAlister from 4pm-7pm. The parade will start about 30 to 40 minutes into the celebration.

"The parade will begin at Broadway and Freret and will come down just in front of the Devlin Fieldhouse," Banos said.

There will be riders on the floats and they will be throwing stuff, and among those riders will be Cowen himself.

"There will be special throws today. I don't want to give them all away, but there are gonna be some very wonderful collector's and commemorative items," Banos said.

There's no admission charge for the event, and the public is welcome.
