A spokesman for the American Automobile Association says gasoline prices have taken a nosedive and could drop even further.
Don Redman says the average price in the New Orleans metro area has dropped 27 cents in the past month, from $3.43 per gallon to $3.16 per gallon.
And the average price could go even lower.
"There are a number of retail outlets in our metro area that are already selling below $3 per gallon," Redman said.
Redman attributes the price drop to a number of factors: lower demand for gas, a drop in the price of crude oil, lessening of tensions in the Middle East and no disruptions from Tropical Storm Karen.
