Judge: Vitter Super PAC Can Raise Unlimited Amounts Of Money

A federal judge has ruled that a super PAC supporting Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter can raise unlimited amounts of money for Vitter, who is running for governor in 2015.

Judge Martin Feldman issued the decision Friday, declaring that the Fund for Louisiana's Future won't have to comply with a state law capping contributions at $100,000 for each election cycle.

The super PAC had argued the restriction unconstitutionally limits political action groups' free speech. Feldman agreed, saying the Fund for Louisiana's Future would face "significant and irreparable injury" if the donation cap was enforced.

Charlie Spies, the PAC treasurer says he is gratified by the decision.

Kathleen Allen, administrator for the Board of Ethics, says the board will decide whether to appeal the judge's ruling at its meeting this month.
