Northshore drivers who find themselves stuck on I-12 Eastbound at the U.S. 190 exit ramp should have some relief in a few years.
St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister says plans are in place to extend and convert that exit into a double exit to accommodate both northbound and southbound 190 traffic which should improve the flow of vehicles.
"With the growth that we've experienced, we've done a lot of work on auxiliary roads, but the interstate is now getting jammed up and traffic is stopping on the interstate," Brister told Fox 8 News Tuesday.
Brister warns it won't be a quick fix. "This is the beginning. It's in the planning stage and it will be, I'm sure, a couple years before it's completed."
Brister adds parish officials and DOTD have talked and both sides will do their best to keep traffic moving while construction is taking place.
