A group that helps homeless veterans find housing is conducting a food drive now through October 26.
Lisa Carey, Director of Veterans Housing Outreach Ministries, spoke to 99.5 WRNO Thursday about their needs.
"We could use as many cans of vegetables as you could possibly get us. We could use as many cans of fruit," Carey said.
Carey says they also need water.
"It could be canned water. We've seen that in cans. It could be the bottled water with the screw top. That would be a real, real asset," Carey pointed out.
"The goal is to actually get about 5,000 canned goods with each month so we can disperse it in small quantities to various veterans that are living on the street," Carey said.
Food items are being collected at several locations, including the Harley-Davidson store on Airline Drive in Metairie and the St. Rose Community Center. Collection hours are 10:30am to 5pm daily through Oct. 26.
