"Be A Tourist" Campaign Launches In New Orleans

As tourism typically slows down in August and September in New Orleans, tourism leaders are encouraging locals to dine out and play tourist to support local merchants, from now through the end of September.

Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown campaign kicked off Friday.

"Summer's a great opportunity to maybe check out a new exhibit at a museum that you've been meaning to or take a tour that you haven't yet taken," says Lauren Cason with the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Bureau also kicked off the 10th Annual Coolinary New Orleans Restaurant Month, inviting residents to dine out during the month of August.

"There are over 55 restaurants that participated, and they're offering two and three-course lunch menus for $20 or less and three-course dinner menus for $35 or less," Cason said.
